About me

About me

I gained my A. Registered Nutrition status after spending 4 years at the University of Surrey and I have further gained clinical experience from a post-graduate specialisation in Clinical Nutrition from the University of Porto - FCNAUP (Portugal). I am currently undertaking a Master Level Degree in Nutrigenomics and a distance learning course on Health, Medicine and Spirituality.

The WHO, 22 January 1998 Review of the Constitution, states that "Health is a dynamic state of complete physical, mental, spiritual and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity". The Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion complement with the following: "Health is, therefore, seen as a resource for everyday life, not the objective of living. Health is a positive concept emphasising social and personal resources, as well as physical capacities. Therefore, health promotion is not just the responsibility of the health sector, but goes beyond healthy life-styles to well-being".

As a health professional and as a Human being, these principles must be established in my practice. The misconception that isolated factors are triggers of illnesses (e.g. diet alone, or food related problem such as allergy reaction to a food compound) must be revised and a holistic functional approach must be applied.

I am extremely interested in understanding how our mental health impacts our body and well-being. Science has been making great achievements at helping us to understand these interactions and bringing this definition of health closer to reality.

With the genetic approach we can help you further personalise health aiming to unravel how physical and mental aspects affects our body on a cellular level and promoting health. I believe we can no longer underestimate the influence of our emotional health status in achieving and maintaining wellbeing.

As "the hope moves the will', start making it a reality.
